There has been a vast increase in grid electricity within the last few years.  On the other hand, the costs of solar systems have also dropped.  Lucrative incentives by the Australian government have also encouraged many households and businesses to move to solar energy.  Clean and environmentally friendly solar systems are excellent to have on rooftops or farmlands because it uses sun rays.

NSW is a perfect place for harvesting energy from the sun.  It’s not only because of more sun exposure due to longer days but the NSW Solar Rebate 2021 is also helping many low-income households and small businesses to benefit from clean and cheap solar energy.

Let’s say you’d like to install solar panels on your home rooftop or want to retrofit a solar battery.   In this case, you can benefit from special rebates and financial schemes by the NSW Government solar rebate.

It is the goal of the NSW Government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.  Therefore, to achieve this goal, a significant flourish in solar power is in practice at the state level.  As a result, a record number of households and businesses are switching to solar power as a primary energy source.

Above all, around 500,000 homes and small businesses have installed solar panels on their rooftops. And because of this, they are saving $900 per year and reducing annual emissions by 3 tonnes per family.  This switch is a great help in achieving the zero-emission target.

In the NSW Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020-2030, the government aims to reduce emissions by 35 percent by 2030 and achieve its final target of zero emissions by 2050.  Solar empowerment to homes and businesses has a vital role in this program.

NSW solar rebate – Feed-in Tariff

A solar feed-in tariff is the payment households and small businesses can receive from the excess energy from their solar system, which is fed back into the electricity network (the grid).

In simple words, solar panels installed on your roof generate electricity from the sun to power your home. If you don’t have a solar battery to store excess energy, you can feed unused energy back into the grid. Depending upon your agreement with your energy provider you will receive payment for this exported energy. The feed-in tariff will appear as a credit on your electricity bill.

For feed-in tariff of excessive solar energy that you send back to the grid, Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) endorses a standard rate range. IPART updates this benchmark range every year. This range encourages a reasonable price for both retailers and customers and reflects the wholesale market price of electricity production.

The rate is per kWh (kilowatt hour) and varies among retailers. Retailers are also not bound to follow it, as the benchmark range is just a guideline. As a guideline to NSW solar rebate 2021, it is crucial to review the complete offer of your retailer, not just the feed-in tariff. The benchmark range released by IPART in May 2021 is 6.0 to 7.3 c/kWH (cent per kilowatt hour).
